Vernon's important contributions to the development of the party's political orientation to the struggle for Black rights and to Malcolm X and the Organization of Afro-American Unity in the early 1960s is reflected in the papers, which include discussion bulletins, articles, leaflets, chronologies, notes, class materials, correspondence, talks, interviews, and print and near-print publications. Related to the material on the Black civil rights movement is a file concerning Vernon's involvement with Afro-Americans Against the War in Vietnam. Also in the papers is a hand-written log of his trip to Cuba in 1960-1961, along with other material relating to the Fair Play for Cuba Committee.
