"Dr. King Calls Draft Unfair to U.S. Negro." New York Times, November 3, 1966. P. 29.

Speaking at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. King cited that 40% of the fighting troops in Vietnam were African-American and also noted the economic and educational causes of the situation. While the 40% figure seems slightly high, there is no doubting that at this time, African-Americans shared a disproportionate share of the fighting and dying.
