Wooten, James T. "Black soldier Buried Among Whites." New York Times, January 4, 1970, p. 57.

After an extended court battle, Henry Terry Jr. was finally granted his wish to be buried in Elmwood Cemetary in Birmingham, Alabama (across the street from his birthplace). The court decision had been issued in favor of Terry the previous month. An estimated 1,200 people attended the ceremony, following the casket from the all African-American cemetary to the previously all white Elmwood Cemetary. The priest who conducted the service commented, "This is not really a funeral march, this is a victory march for Billy and for truth and right."
