UNFEMALE to STANLEY LEVISON saying they need someone for
the BARRY FARBER show which they are going to tape
between 4:00 and 7:15 and who would he suggest. LEVISON
said BEN PEYTON(ph) or ANN HEGEMAN(ph) and to leave
it up to them if they want to do it. UNFEMALE asked him
about that Sun. night thing in Brooklyn and pointed out
that BERNARD LAFAYETTE(ph) said he is a member of Dr.
KING'S staff. LEVISON said he hasn't done anything about
it and that LAFAYETTE would be excellent. He said that
LAFAYETTE actually works for the Friends Service Committee
in Chicago and he is part time sort of on the staff. O.K.

DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING to STANLEY LEVISON saying that the
criticisms and blasts and everything are getting out of
hand. KING asked if had seen RALPH BUNCHE's statement
and LEVISON said no. KING Said that BUNCHE said that he
doing a grave injustice to the cause of Civil Rights
and the negro people and that he should immediately
declare whether he is going to be in the Civil Rights
movement or the Peace movement KING said he is temporarily
at a loss and shocked and he has to do a lot of soul
searching. He said he is afraid that the people he is
working with will get the impression that he is deserting
the Civil Rights movement or hurting it. He said if the
NY Times would publish his whole statement if would help
to clarify things. LEVISON suggested an ad in the
Times to answer these false charges. KING said he had
another idea and thought possibly another conference call
about 7:00 NY time would be in order to discuss a possible
meeting with ROY(WILKINS), WHITNEY(YOUNG), BAYARD(RUSTIN),
PHIL(all ph)and whoever else and explain my position
and point out this is clearly an attempt to undermine me
in the Negro community, and they could come forth
saying they more clearly understand my position and they
are satisfied that my major concern is Civil Rights. However
it may be that WHITNEY and ROY are enjoying the criticisms
that are coming to me. LEVISON said he was afraid that was
true. He asked KING if he was satisfied with the statement
he made this morning. KING said he thought
it was a very good one but that it could be expanded.
LEVISON said it could be expanded and emphasized and he
thought it should be put in the TIMES and the Washington
Post in an ad. It could outline some of your plans on
Civil Rights. KING said he would get the (conference)
call going for 6:00 and that LEVISON should call HARRY
and tell him to get through to OCHS(ph,NY Times?) to
print as much of the statement as possible. LEVISON
warns KING that he should talk to PEVE(ph) and make sure
that he doesn't undermine him . They agree to talk later.
1:50 PM OC STANLEY LEVISON to HARRY WACHTEL(ph) who was not in.
LEVISON left message for him to call.
